Matt Christian had a field day Saturday The quarterback for New Mexico State threw four touchdowns and added another score on the ground while leading the Aggies to a 42-28 victory over in-state rival New Mexico at University Stadium. Christian threw for 296 yards for NMSU (2-3), and added another 101 yards on 15 carries. However, it was Kenny Turner who led the team on the ground, as the back rumbled for 109 yards on 24 carries.

As for the Lobos (0-5), they were unable to get George Barlow a win in his first game as the team's head coach. Barlow took over for Mike Locksley who was let go by the program on September 25th. The Lobos were paced by B.R. Holbrook, who threw for 265 yards. The quarterback tossed one touchdown and was also intercepted once. Crusoe Gongbay only finished with 54 rushing yards, but found the end zone twice.

The Aggies struck early and often in this matchup, scoring 21 straight first quarter points. All three touchdowns came from the arm of Christian, who connected with Todd Lee, Austin Franklin and Kemonte Bateman for scores of 22, 50 and 25 yards, respectively.
